Flood in Mersing, Kota Tinggi not much change

JOHOR BAHRU: flood Situation in Mersing recovering when seven evacuation in the area closed today and all 1233 victims allowed to return in phases since 2.00 pm.

State Security Secretary of National Security Council (MKN) Johor, Muhd Yusri Hashim, said all the victims involved are the villagers happy, Kampung Sri Bayu, Taman Sri Bintang, Kampung Sungai Padang, Kampung Menyirih, Kampung Teluk Buih Wak Salam, Kampung Air, Kampung Pengkalan Batu and Che Wook.

"However, members of the public are reminded to be alert to the possibility of floods again this Sunday following heavy rainfall and high-water events full on the day," he said when contacted, here.

In the meantime he says four evacuation centers in Kota Tinggi remain open as of 5 pm involving 279 victims of Kampung Gembut, Kampung Perepat, Kampung Sungai Tuan Seh and Kampung Mawai.

"Two evacuation involving victims from Felda Air Tawar 1 and Kampung Baru Sungai Mas closed since noon," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of the Malaysia Civil Defence Department (JPAM) Johor, Colonel Ghazali Abdul Rahman, said it was always alert to face any possible despite floods start receding.

He said 10 members of the Department with a truck and driven to help transport flood victims and deliver goods in Mersing in the critical disaster Saturday and Sunday.
"For Kota Tinggi, efforts are being made to work with members of the people's Volunteer Corps (RELA) if circumstances back bad. This is because JPAM does not have offices in the area and need to move members from Johor Bahru, "he said. -NEW STRAITS TIMES
